Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Video Editing Reflection

The process of learning the software wasn't very difficult but it was very tedious. I feel like once you start to get the hang of it, it was easy to do, but if you are confused and not understanding the videos very well or are not very tech savvy, it is hard to do. The videos definitely played a huge role in my understanding of the software. Without the videos I would not know how to do anything on adobe premiere pro. I would say that overall it was a confusing but beneficial process.

Creating the clip was relatively easy. This is a new platform to me, I have messed with video editing before so this was not anything too different from what i'm used to using. We were made to upload the clips onto premiere pro and edit a 45 second clip together using the clips and the b-roll as well as including lower thirds for the manager. After I watched the tutorials and understood the tools I was able to create the entire clip in around five minutes.

My only real challenge was making the words smaller when doing the lower thirds. This was due to impatience on my part, it was the final stretch of the assignment and I was very much over it and just wanted to finish, but by doing that I turned it into a longer process instead of just watching the full video to understand how to do it correctly. There was a lot of success. Personally, I found the process quite simple. Everything was going smoothly and I was able to make a good, simple edit with no real issues. I especially enjoyed putting b-roll over interviews, it felt almost rewarding after watching 15 videos finally being able to do it on my own.

Mentioned previously, I was able to learn how to put b-roll over and interview and mute the audio of the b-roll. I found this very fun because it was the part I saved for last and it just really made the whole project come together in my eyes. I was also humbled and learned to have patience and watch the full video so that I don't have to do more work in the long run.

What I will do with what I learned is probably edit videos on premiere pro from now on. I like how i'm able to view what i'm going to include and cut it very easily as well as being able to drag and drop things. It is quite simple after learning. Although I am not a usual video editor, I do dabble every once in a while and now when I do, I have a new platform I am able to use.

I think this made me more open to making a video for my portfolio, however, I will still be sticking with the magazine because I know that is where my strengths are. This also solidified this for me because editing a video on adobe premiere pro can be a tedious process and this is not me saying that making the magazine would be easier, but considering the fact that I do a lot of design and typing, as well as other aspects that go into a magazine, I know that I would be able to have the best outcome with something I am more familiar with.
